Nowadays one can hardly escape sound in working and living environments. Indeed there is soundproofing for those who wish to keep sound in their environment within certain limits. Technically this makes “ Sound” a complex matter. But what exactly constitutes sound? And how could one meet the regulatory insulation requirements that keep getting stricter? Which materials insulate sound well and which materials do not? Knowledge of sound and construction can be useful when trying to answer these questions. Either way, the sound insulation of a structure can only be considerably improved by applying the sound measurements and appropriate materials. In the field of sound insulation between homes and within homes, we offer advice on both small and large projects. Building plans are often verified and acoustically assessed. This applies to both new construction and renovation. For the execution of sound measurements in the context of NEN 5077, an integrating sound level meter with real-time octave and one-third octave band analysis is utilized. The calibrator that is used complies with ISO 10942: 1989 (IEC-942, Class 1). The sound measurements in the construction are executed according to the NEN 5077 with which standardized sound sources are utilized.
